CHECK THE SOLUTION.

(i) : If the blocks remain stationary then mg < µMg

Or m < µ M

then T = mg

( ii) : If the system is placed in lift which is accelerating downwards then normal reaction of M decrease therefore friction on it decreases. System will acceleration only if

m (g – a) > µ M (g – a)

or m > µ M

(iii) : If lift has downward acceleration g then blocks will fall freely and tension, frictional force becomes zero.
